Wedding day beauty tips you have to know before your big day arrives!

Updated: Nov 13, 2020

I won't mince my words here, the run up to a wedding can be very stressful!  There are big decisions to be made from choosing the wedding venue, guest list, menus, band, flowers, photographer, videographer, hairdresser and make up artist.  Lets just say there can be a conflict of interest between the couple, never mind when their families decide to get involved!

Two of the people that you spend the most time with on your wedding day are your Hair and Make up Artist.  It is so important to choose two people that are going to make you feel relaxed and at ease on the morning of your wedding.  Choose people that are professional, reliable and have the skills to give you the fairytale wedding you always dreamed of.  Make sure they have a contingency plan should they have to cancel due to sickness or unforeseen circumstances, you would be surprised how often this happens. You want to look the very best version of yourself on your wedding day and feel amazing!

I always recommend a bridal make up trial which lasts up to an hour and a half so that the make up artist can get a feel for what you want, the style of wedding dress and whether the wedding is at home or abroad can also influence the make up style that you go for.  A good make up artist will be able to talk you through all these things and advise on what will suit you and your wedding.

Because the build up to the wedding can be so stressful this can play havoc with your skin leading to flare ups.  It is important to get your skincare regime in order up to a year or the minimum 6 months before the wedding if possible.  Regular facials, using the right skincare products and of course diet play a huge part in getting your skin in tip top shape for your big day. Hydration is essential, drink lots of water, use the right moisturiser for your skin type and snack on naturally hydrating foods like watermelon.  Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring carbohydrate in the body.  It is is plentiful in young skin and diminishes as we age unfortunately.  What is so great about it is that it can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water so by adding it to your daily skincare regime you can lock in moisture and smooth out lines and wrinkles.  I love to use it as a primer on my clients skin before make up application.  I personally love Pestle & Mortar's hyaluronic serum #pestleandmortar, a great Irish skincare company who have recently expanded their range to include cleanser, moisturiser and night oil.

Try incorporating superfoods for your face like grapefruit, cucumbers, wild salmon and kale into your diet.  Antioxidants from foods such as blueberries, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, kiwis and spinach protect your skin from premature aging.  Did you know that dark chocolate helps your skin stay hydrated and protects it from sun damage?  That's a great reason to stock up on chocolate bars, but before you do make sure it contains at least 70 per cent cacao!

Peels, microdermabrasion and laser are very popular treatments in the run up to a wedding.  These can address any major skin concerns you have such as acne scarring, large open pores, lines, wrinkles and uneven skin tone and pigmentation.  Make sure you get recommendations and do your research before embarking on a course of these treatments.

Last but not least make sure you find a good HD brow specialist that will get your eyebrows in shape for your wedding, this can take up to a year if your eyebrows have been over plucked in the past.  The eyebrows frame the face and it is very important to get the right shape for you and it makes such a difference to how your make up looks.  Enjoy this special time of your life and the run up to your wedding. Please get in touch if you would like to enquire about a Bridal trial or to get a quotation.
